Gunmen Hijack Bus in Imo, Creating Panic Among Passengers
Suspected gunmen hijacked an Aba-bound bus in the Ngor Okpala area of Imo State, causing widespread panic among passengers and motorists.
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen emerged from the bush, firing sporadically before taking control of the bus, which had departed Owerri for Aba, Abia State. The gunmen’s actions caused chaos, with other vehicles either reversing suddenly or coming to an abrupt halt, while passengers fled in all directions for safety.
“They came out of the bush and started shooting before hijacking a fully loaded bus,” one witness said. “Many passengers ran out of their vehicles, some into the bush, while others ran back in the opposite direction. The situation was terrifying.”

This incident mirrors similar attacks in the area, including an incident in May 2025, when suspected gunmen abducted 18 passengers. In the weeks following that attack, over 20 more passengers were reportedly kidnapped, and at least two people were said to have been killed during the assault.
At the time of reporting, the Police Public Relations Officer for Imo State, Henry Okoye, had not responded to inquiries about the latest incident, as calls to his phone went unanswered and his messages remained unanswered.
