Imo Govt Shuts Hotel, Mortuary Over Kidnapping, Organ Harvesting Allegations

The Imo State government has sealed a hotel and a private mortuary in Ngor Okpala after security agencies uncovered decomposing and mutilated bodies allegedly linked to kidnapping and organ harvesting activities.

The operation carried out followed credible intelligence that led the police and top government officials to the facilities believed to be owned by a suspect, Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, who is now on the run.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, said the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, led a joint team that visited the locations as part of efforts to curb violent crimes along the Owerri–Aba Expressway.

The delegation included the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Chioma Egu; Chief Pathologist of the Imo State Specialist Hospital, Dr Ibeaja Okechukwu; local vigilante members; and the Chairman of Ngor Okpala LGA, Hon. Chika Ibekwe.

Okoye said decomposing and mutilated corpses were found at the mortuary in poor conditions, raising suspicion of illegal activities.

He noted that both the mortuary and the hotel had been shut on the directive of the state government, while items recovered from the suspect’s residence were taken in for investigation.

The police assured residents that everyone involved in the alleged crimes would be traced and prosecuted. Oparaugo has been declared wanted, and the public has been urged to report any information that may lead to his arrest.
