Iran Foreign Minister Heads to Moscow as US Talks Falter
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has departed Islamabad for Moscow, according to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as diplomatic efforts continue amid uncertainty over renewed talks with the United States.
Araghchi’s trip follows a visit to Muscat, Oman, as part of ongoing regional engagements aimed at easing tensions.
Although there is no confirmation that direct negotiations between Iran and the United States will resume, indirect communication appears to be ongoing. Iran’s Fars news agency reported that Tehran sent written messages to Washington through Pakistan, outlining key positions, including issues related to its nuclear programme and the Strait of Hormuz.
The report, however, noted that the messages were not part of formal negotiations.

Tensions remain high despite a ceasefire agreed on April 7, which followed fighting that began with joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran in February. The truce has largely halted hostilities, but a lasting resolution has yet to be reached.
The conflict has continued to affect global markets, particularly after Iran disrupted activities around the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for oil and gas shipments, contributing to rising prices.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he had cancelled a planned visit by American envoys to Islamabad, citing a lack of progress in discussions. He added that the United States would not pursue further talks unless approached by Iran.
