Fire has destroyed the Araromi Spare Parts Market at Agodi-Gate in Ibadan, Oyo State. The incident, which started around 2 a.m. on Saturday, razed properties worth millions of naira. Firefighters are still working to bring the situation under control.
The General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident and called for help, urging water tanker owners to assist in battling the flames. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and investigations are ongoing.
This incident is one of several recent fire outbreaks in Ibadan. On Friday, a fire in the Ori-Eru, Idikan area claimed the lives of a man, his wife, and their grandson, destroying a storey building. Earlier in the week, another fire destroyed three shops in the city, though quick action by firefighters saved 13 others.
Last Friday night, a fire broke out at a Christ Apostolic Church during a vigil in Lagelu Local Government Area, trapping several worshippers and causing panic.
However, affected individuals are left counting their losses and calling for improved safety measures to prevent future disasters. In response, officials have advised residents to remain cautious, especially during the dry season, as investigations into these incidents continue.
