A new creative gathering, Unscripted Night, debuted in Lagos on Sunday 29th June 2025 with a refreshing twist on live entertainment, bringing together storytellers, performers, and spontaneous thinkers for a night of unscripted fun and expression.

Held in Lekki, the event provided a platform for creatives across different fields to perform, connect, and unwind in a relaxed and engaging atmosphere. With no fixed agenda or rehearsal, attendees were immersed in storytelling, music, improv, games, dance, comedy, and audience-driven performances — all unfolding without a script.

Damilola Adebowale, a wealth manager who attended the event, described the experience as completely different from what he expected. “When I was coming here, I didn’t know what to expect from something called Unscripted. But getting here, it’s been really creative. I’ve seen people act, sing, and do comedy on the spot. People who don’t normally perform just came out and enjoyed themselves,”he said. He also praised the networking environment, noting that he reconnected with old friends, met new people, and enjoyed the overall vibe of the evening. “I wish this could happen every month. Life has been tough, and this is the kind of space people need to wind down.

Edgar Eriakha, a content creator, co-convener, influencer, and broadcaster with TVC Nigeria, emphasized the role of Unscripted Night in addressing the growing emotional fatigue in society. “Everyone is tired. Everyone is worked up. This is a place to relax and just enjoy. We’re blending storytelling with laughter, music, and moments where people can just be themselves,” he said. Edgar, who participated in multiple segments including comedy, said the audience engagement was a major highlight. “They yabbed me on stage a few times and it was all love. That’s the beauty of this space — everyone gets involved.”

He added that the event would be held monthly, every last Sunday, and predicted that within a few months it would become a major platform for emerging talents and young creatives across Nigeria. “We’re building something big. Sponsors will soon come on board, celebrities will show up, and it will be a launchpad for people with raw talent,” he said.

Event attendee and event planner Olapeju Oshoffa also praised the event for its inclusiveness and energy. “It’s been very interactive, cozy, and intimate,” she said. “There’s a sense of connection among people, even if you’re meeting them for the first time. You don’t feel like a stranger. I love the creative mix — poets, musicians, rappers, actors — and how people could freely express themselves.”

One of the conveners of Unscripted Night, Olamide Oshoffa, described the initiative as a creative community with a mission to grow. “For every edition, we’re bringing storytelling, musical performances and spontaneous games. It’s about building a larger network of creatives who can feed off each other’s energy and talent,” he said.

He explained that beyond entertainment, the event is structured to promote collaboration, idea-sharing, and capacity building within the creative industry. “This isn’t just for fun. It’s a platform to grow people and connect them. Whether you’re an artist, a writer, or just someone trying to find your voice, this space welcomes you.”

His co-convener, Zainab Osanyin, a broadcast journalist, added that the concept was born from the reality that life itself is unscripted. “We wanted to create a space that mirrors life — unpredictable, spontaneous, unfiltered,” she said. “The magic is that anyone can be part of it. You might walk in expecting to watch, and end up holding the mic, acting, or playing a game. That level of inclusion makes it unique.”

Zainab explained that every part of the event was intentionally unpredictable — from unscripted games like “Flip the Script” to live storytelling pulled straight from the crowd. “We have people tracking strangers, playing out funny challenges, or doing impromptu performances. You don’t know what will happen until it happens — and that’s the charm.”

She said the plan is to continue hosting Unscripted Night every last Sunday of the month, with future editions aiming to expand beyond Lagos to other parts of Nigeria and even internationally. The organizers are also seeking brand sponsorships to scale up the event and build a sustainable creative ecosystem. “We hope that with everything we’re doing, brands will see what we’ve built and want to be a part of it,” she said. “Eventually, we want a community that proudly calls itself the Unscripted Night family.”

The inaugural edition ended on a high note, with participants calling for a monthly repeat. As Lagos continues to evolve as a cultural and creative hub, Unscripted Night offers a fresh, dynamic alternative — where spontaneity, artistry, and human connection take center stage.
