Lewandowski, Yamal Fire Barca Past Sociedad To Go Top
Barcelona climbed to the top of La Liga on Sunday after defeating Real Sociedad 2-1 at the Olympic Stadium, with Robert Lewandowski and returning youngster Lamine Yamal combining for the winner.
The Catalan side took advantage of Real Madrid’s 5-2 derby loss to Atletico a day earlier to move above Xabi Alonso’s team by a single point.
Real Sociedad struck first in the 31st minute when former Madrid defender Alvaro Odriozola finished off Ander Barrenetxea’s cross. Barcelona responded through Jules Kounde, who powered home a header from a Marcus Rashford corner before the break.
Yamal, back from a groin injury that kept him out for four matches, entered as a second-half substitute and made an instant impact. The teenager burst into the box and crossed for Lewandowski, whose header clipped the post and went in to seal victory.

Goalkeeper Alex Remiro produced several saves to keep Sociedad in the game, while Barca’s Wojciech Szczesny also denied Mikel Oyarzabal in the closing stages. Both sides hit the crossbar late on, but Barcelona held firm to claim the points.
“It was a difficult game. We could have scored more, but the last 25 minutes were tough for us,” Kounde admitted after the match.
The result puts Barcelona top of the table as they prepare to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday. Sociedad remain near the bottom but showed signs of improvement despite the loss.
