Lufthansa flights hit as Munich Airport closed over drones
Lufthansa and other airlines were forced to cancel or reroute flights on Thursday night after drones shut down Munich Airport, one of Europe’s busiest travel hubs.
The closure, which lasted from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., affected nearly 3,000 passengers. A total of 17 flights were cancelled while 15 others were diverted to German cities including Frankfurt and Nuremberg, as well as Vienna in Austria.

Lufthansa said 19 of its services, including three long-haul flights to Asia, were disrupted. The airline promised to reschedule affected flights and provided stranded travellers with basic supplies.
Airport officials confirmed services resumed at dawn, with a Bangkok-Munich flight the first to land. Photos showed some passengers resting on camp beds inside the terminal overnight.
The incident adds to a string of drone sightings disrupting airports across Europe. Authorities in Denmark recently banned civilian drones during a summit of European leaders, citing security concerns amid rising tensions with Russia.
