Modakeke Community Appeals to Osun Govt for Urgent Road Repairs

The Modakeke Community in Osun State has appealed to the State Government for urgent intervention to repair the town’s deteriorating inner roads, which are severely impacting daily life. The community highlighted that the poor condition of the roads is hindering social, cultural, and commercial activities and affecting residents’ well-being.

Prince Tunmbi Toriola, chairman of the 40th Akoraye Day planning committee, made the call during a press conference in Modakeke, Osun State, on Monday. He revealed that the community plans to raise N1 billion for various developmental projects during the grand finale of this year’s Akoraye Day celebrations, as part of efforts to address the town’s infrastructural challenges.

Toriola emphasised the community’s readiness to collaborate with the state government to improve local infrastructure, stating, “Modakeke has consistently demonstrated its commitment to self-help development,” and adding that “communities thrive best when government support strengthens local initiatives.”

The community leader outlined several key areas requiring government attention, including the dilapidated roads linking settlements within the town, the need for upgraded health facilities, improved water supply systems, modern drainage channels to prevent flooding, and enhanced security infrastructure. He singled out the bridge at Old Nepa Area, which remains incomplete despite repairs, as a particularly pressing concern.

“The condition of our roads has become a major challenge. They affect commerce, emergency response, social mobility, and overall quality of life. It is crucial that the state government partners with us to improve the infrastructure of this historic community,” Toriola said.

He also highlighted past achievements funded through Akoraye Day, including the construction of Modakeke High School, a modern palace, a police station, post office, and courts. Toriola reiterated the community’s commitment to peaceful coexistence with neighbouring communities and the importance of peace for sustainable development.

As part of the ongoing celebrations, the community plans to launch a N1 billion Community Development Fund during the grand finale of this year’s Akoraye Day. Prominent traditional rulers, including the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, will attend the event.

Toriola assured that measures have been put in place for a smooth and successful celebration.
