Niger State Governor Assures Families of Safe Return of Abducted St. Mary’s Students
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has again reassured anxious families that the students and staff taken from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, will return safely.
The governor, who spoke through his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, gave the assurance in Minna while opening an eight-day retreat for commissioners-designate, local government chairmen, their deputies and special advisers.
He condemned the abduction, describing it as a painful reminder of the security challenges facing the state, and stressed that his administration remains fully committed to protecting children and safeguarding every community.

Bago said the state executive arm plays a central role in driving government policies, adding that the retreat was designed to sharpen the capacity of officials for more effective service delivery.
He urged public office holders to work with discipline and honesty, maintain teamwork and uphold the rule of law as part of the collective plan to build what he called a “New Niger.”
