Nnamdi Azikiwe University Expels Student for Assaulting Lecturer
The authorities of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, have expelled Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, a 300-level student in the Department of History and International Studies, for assaulting Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.
In an expulsion letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor I. Modebelu, the university stated that the decision followed the recommendation of the Students Disciplinary Committee (SDC), which found Precious guilty of gross misconduct and a violation of Regulation 4 of the institution’s Students Disciplinary Regulations (SDR).
The incident, which gained widespread attention after a video surfaced online, reportedly occurred after Dr. Okoye interrupted a TikTok video that Precious was recording on campus.
The situation escalated into a physical altercation, sparking public outrage and calls for disciplinary action.

In an official statement issued on February 14, 2025, the Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, Njelita Louis O., reaffirmed that the disciplinary process was thorough and fair.
The university stated that all parties involved were given a fair hearing by the Students Disciplinary Committee, which concluded that Precious’ actions constituted gross misconduct and a violation of university regulations.
Following the committee’s findings, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, approved her immediate expulsion on behalf of the University Senate. She has been directed to vacate the university premises immediately and return all university property in her possession.
The university management, under Prof. Ikechebelu’s leadership, reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline, maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment, and fostering the development of scholars and leaders in character and excellence.
