NSCDC FCT Boss Decries Surge in Child Molestation, Urges Stronger Action and Community Support
The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has raised alarm over the growing rate of child molestation in Nigeria, describing the situation as deeply troubling and intolerable.
Dr. Odumosu voiced his concerns on Monday while addressing students from ECWA Hill Academy, Maitama, who were on an educational tour of the NSCDC FCT headquarters in Abuja.
This was made known in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi.

Speaking to the visiting students, the Commandant highlighted the agency’s commitment to tackling child abuse through its Anti-Human Trafficking and Gender Units. These departments, he explained, focus on combating sexual abuse, child trafficking, and the illicit trade in human organs.

He revealed that the Command is currently investigating a distressing case involving a man accused of sexually abusing his nine-year-old daughter.
“This type of wickedness is on the rise, and we will not sit back. Our command, alongside other concerned agencies, is determined to seek justice for victims and ensure perpetrators are punished,” Odumosu said.
He further emphasized that beyond their core duty of safeguarding critical national infrastructure, the NSCDC also prioritizes the protection of vulnerable groups, especially minors.
“It is heartbreaking to report that we’re currently handling a case where a father molested his own daughter. This madness must stop. Our Gender Unit, with the support of other stakeholders, will ensure that such cases are not ignored or downplayed,” he added.
Dr. Odumosu advised the students to be alert and courageous enough to report any case of inappropriate behavior, even if it involves relatives. He encouraged them to stay focused on their studies, noting that education remains a powerful tool for shaping a better future.
He also reaffirmed the Corps’ support for the Federal Government’s Safe School Initiative, stressing that they remain committed to ensuring the safety of students and teachers across the capital territory.
In his remarks, Mr. Angbulu Joshua, a teacher from ECWA Hill Academy who led the visiting team, praised the NSCDC for its dedication to protecting citizens and national assets. He explained that the visit was organized to expose students to the practical workings of the Corps and deepen their civic understanding.
