NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel Opens 2025 Press Week with Dialogue on Child Abuse with Primate Ayodele as it’s lead Speaker
The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) will on Thursday, 28th August 2025, flag off its annual Press Week with a national dialogue on child abuse, described as one of Nigeria’s most pervasive yet underreported crises
The symposium, themed “Silent Cries: Uncovering the Deep-Rooted Crisis of Child Abuse in Nigeria and the Role of the Media in Breaking the Cycle,” seeks to rally collective action against the menace.
In a statement jointly signed by Chapel Chairman, Comrade Abraham Akpabio, and Planning Committee Chairman, Comrade Joshua Uloko, the Chapel announced that His Eminence, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, Founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, will deliver the keynote address.

Primate Ayodele, widely recognized for his humanitarian advocacy, is expected to underscore the role of faith leaders, journalists, and policymakers in safeguarding children from violence, exploitation, neglect, and harmful traditional practices.
The dialogue will also examine practical solutions such as early detection of abuse, safe reporting mechanisms, stronger enforcement of child rights laws, and mobilizing religious and cultural leaders to challenge harmful norms.
Panel sessions will focus on critical themes, including “Faith, Culture, and Abuse: When Tradition Fails the Child” and “The Legal Disconnect: Are Nigeria’s Child Protection Laws Enough?”
The NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel urged journalists, civil society groups, policymakers, and stakeholders to actively participate and amplify the call for a safer and more just Nigeria for children.
