Nwaogu quits APC over primary dispute
Former senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Nkechi Nwaogu, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress following disagreements over the party’s primary election in Abia State.
Nwaogu, who also served in the House of Representatives, confirmed her exit from the ruling party on Thursday, citing alleged injustice and irregularities during the primary process.
She claimed there was no proper election in her zone and accused some party members of working against the interests of the party.

According to her, the outcome of the primary that produced Emeka Atuma as winner reflected what she described as attempts to undermine the structure built by loyal party members.
The former lawmaker said she decided to leave the APC after observing what she called “shenanigans” within the party leadership in her area.
Her resignation follows weeks of speculation linking her with talks involving the National Democratic Coalition, while some APC leaders were reportedly making efforts to persuade her to remain in the party.

Reacting to the development, the Abia State chapter of the APC said it had not received any formal notice of resignation from the former senator.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, said the leadership was yet to obtain any official communication confirming her departure.
Nwaogu’s exit comes at a time political parties are facing debates over the legality of defections following the closure of membership registration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
