Oshiomhole Hails Okpebholo, Says Edo Recovering from Years of Neglect

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for what he described as a strong start in office, saying Edo State is beginning to recover from years of abandoned projects and weak public infrastructure.

Addressing journalists in Benin, Oshiomhole said the current administration had already delivered verifiable projects, including the ongoing Ramat Park flyover, which he believes will ease traffic congestion and boost economic activity.

He added that public schools, many of which had been neglected, are now being rehabilitated to provide better learning conditions.

The senator highlighted the revival of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, saying the institution suffered prolonged instability due to inadequate funding under the previous government.

He commended Okpebholo for increasing the school’s monthly subvention to N500 million to restore academic operations.

Oshiomhole contrasted Okpebholo’s efforts with what he called the failures of the immediate past administration, accusing it of repeatedly launching projects that never materialised. He cited the Gelegele Port and several housing schemes as examples of abandoned initiatives.

While responding to political criticisms, Oshiomhole dismissed the opposition PDP, describing it as “politically dead,” and accused journalists of relying on outdated narratives. He insisted that the record of the current administration was already clear to residents.

On the ongoing review of the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA), Oshiomhole said the committee he chairs would determine the legal and operational status of the project and clarify the role of the Benin Royal Palace in its development.
