Peter Obi Returns to Public Activities After Medical Rest

Former Labour Party presidential candidate and ex-Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has returned to public engagements after taking a short medical break over the weekend.

Obi had announced on Saturday that he was unwell and had been advised by his doctor to suspend all activities, including scheduled appearances in and outside Nigeria. He revealed that he fell ill while attending a tourism event in Enugu and needed time to recover.

Resuming activities on Monday, Obi said his first engagement was a visit to a small business he had long promised to support.

He stressed the importance of small and medium-scale enterprises in driving Nigeria’s economy, noting that the business he visited currently provides jobs for over 50 young Nigerians and has room to expand with proper support.

He compared Nigeria’s struggling textile industry with Bangladesh, where the sector contributes more than 70 percent of national exports and generates over $50 billion annually.

However, Obi lamented the collapse of Nigeria’s textile sector, describing it as wasted potential that could have provided massive employment and export opportunities.

Reiterating his consistent call for Nigeria to shift from a consumption-driven economy to one built on production, Obi maintained that real investment in small businesses remains the most effective path to reducing poverty and unlocking growth.
