Police Arrest Woman for Trafficking Girls For N50,000 to Mauritania
Operatives of the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a woman and her accomplice for allegedly trafficking young girls to Mauritania for commercial sex work in exchange for N50,000 per victim.
Zonal Public Relations Officer, Umma Ayuba, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the suspects were apprehended at their hideout in the Meiran area of Lagos on March 22.
Investigations showed that the syndicate worked with contacts in Mauritania to lure young girls under the age of 22.
Upon interrogation, the first suspect admitted to the crime, stating that she had been introduced to the scheme by a woman who is currently serving a jail term for similar offenses.

She further confessed to receiving N50,000 for each girl trafficked, including her own 19-year-old daughter.
The second suspect admitted she was initially led to believe the victims were being recruited as domestic workers.
However, she became suspicious when one of the girls she sent was rejected based on age and body size. She later discovered that the girls were being trafficked for sex work and withdrew from the operation.
Ayuba stated that investigations are still ongoing and the suspects will be charged in court upon completion.
