Police Foil Robbery Attempt in Ogun, Recover Suspects’ Vehicle

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a robbery attempt in Sagamu and recovered the operational vehicle used by the suspects after a swift intervention by officers attached to the Sakura Division.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to Odutola, the incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. when a distress call was received from the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman of Okearedi, Araromi, off the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway, reporting that about five armed men were attempting to break into a residence.

She said, “A smart and coordinated response was immediately launched by operatives of the Sakura Division. On sighting the approaching patrol team, the suspects fled in different directions, prompting a hot chase by the police.”

Odutola added that the suspects’ operational vehicle a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT  was recovered at the entrance of the community.

“A search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of fireworks (knockouts) suspected to have been intended for distraction during the operation,” she said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the officers for their prompt response and professionalism. He noted that the command had intensified its end-of-year security operations by deploying personnel to identified flashpoints across the state.

While assuring residents of sustained police visibility and proactive interventions, Ogunlowo urged members of the public to remain vigilant, especially when returning home late at night. He further advised that residents ensure proper illumination of dark or isolated areas to discourage criminal activities.

The command also encouraged the public to follow its verified communication channels for real-time security updates and information.

In a related development, the Ogun State Security Network, Amotekun, in June 2025, also foiled a robbery attempt in Akinale town, Ewekoro Local Government Area, following a distress call. During that operation, a 28-year-old man, Opeyemi Olusanya, was shot in the leg before being rescued by operatives of the corps.
