Drama unfolded at the National Assembly on Wednesday as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived amidst a protest staged by her supporters, demanding the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The protesters, who gathered near the Mopol gate, erupted in cheers, waving placards with slogans such as “Akpabio Must Go” and “We Stand With Senator Natasha”.
The protest was sparked by Akpoti- Uduaghan’s recent allegations of sexual harassment against Akpabio, which she claims occurred during a visit to his residence in December 2023 and again while she sought clarity on her Ajaokuta Steel motion.
This isn’t the first time Akpoti-Uduaghan has clashed with Akpabio; she previously accused him of deliberately isolating her from other lawmakers over her seating arrangement.
A rival group of demonstrators backing Akpabio also gathered in a counter- protest, carrying banners with message such as “We say no to Natasha’s serial blackmailing” and “Akpabio treated and Akpabio treated Natasha as a daughter and friend.”
