Reps Committee Faults NAHCON Over 2024 Hajj Infraction
The House of Representatives ad hoc committee has found the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) guilty of several infractions related to the 2024 Hajj exercise, including financial mismanagement, poor accommodation, and logistical failures.
The committee, chaired by Sada Soli, identified issues such as overcrowding in premium tents, inadequate accommodations in Mina and Arafat, and conflicts with licensed tour operators over fee discrepancies.
NAHCON’s failure to transparently distribute a N90bn federal subsidy also raised concerns, with the funds allegedly transferred to offshore accounts without proper tracking.

The report recommended urgent reforms, including better coordination with state pilgrim boards, improved accommodation standards, and a review of Nigeria’s Bilateral Air Agreement with Saudi Arabia to protect local airlines.
NAHCON’s financial practices and its handling of pilgrims’ Basic Travel Allowance also came under scrutiny, highlighting the need for greater transparency and accountability.
