Security Aides Withdrawn from Lagos Speaker Mojisola Meranda
All security aides assigned to Speaker Mojisola Meranda of the Lagos State Assembly have been withdrawn.
As of Thursday morning, police officers and other security personnel attached to the Speaker were no longer present.
While the specific authority behind the decision remains unconfirmed, a source close to Meranda disclosed that she has been left without security protection.
“All the Speaker’s security aides have been withdrawn, along with those attached to the House of Assembly,” the source revealed, expressing concerns over her vulnerability.
This development coincides with speculations that Meranda may step down as Speaker. The situation follows the intervention of prominent figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former Osun and Ogun state governors, Chief Bisi Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba.
Last Sunday, a mediation panel led by the duo convened a meeting at the Governor’s Lodge in Marina, bringing together key stakeholders, including members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

According to sources present, the panel has recommended the resignation of Mudashiru Obasa, alongside Meranda’s exit, to pave the way for a new lawmaker from Lagos West to assume leadership of the Assembly.
Confirming the security withdrawal, Meranda’s spokesperson, Ganzallo Victor, stated, “We are unsure why the authorities made this decision, but all police officers and security personnel attached to her have been withdrawn. She is currently without security.”
Meanwhile, a source within Obasa’s camp disclosed that all security aides assigned to him have been reinstated as of Thursday morning.
