A late Senegal effort that appeared to result in a goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up, while Morocco were later awarded a penalty after a VAR review.
Brahim Díaz’s spot kick was saved by Senegal goalkeeper Édouard Mendy, sending the game into extra time.
The decisive moment came early in the first period of extra time when Pape Gueye scored with a left-footed strike to give the Teranga Lions the lead.

Senegal then defended resolutely to see out the remainder of the match despite sustained pressure from Morocco.
The final was briefly delayed late in regulation time following protests by Senegal players over a refereeing decision, but play resumed and the match was completed.
The victory gives Senegal a second AFCON crown, adding to their 2021 triumph, while Morocco were denied a first continental title since 1976 despite reaching the final on home soil.
