‘Severance’ Leads as Emmy Awards Unveil 2025 Nominees

The race for television’s highest honour has officially begun as the 77th Emmy Awards unveiled their list of nominees, with Apple TV’s Severance leading the pack with a total of 27 nominations. The event is set to take place in Los Angeles on September 14.

Close behind is The Penguin with 24 nominations, while The Studio and The White Lotus each secured 23 nods, marking a strong presence across major categories.

In the Outstanding Drama Series category, shows like Andor, The Last of Us, The Diplomat, and Slow Horses will contend alongside frontrunners Severance and The White Lotus.

Comedy also sees a strong lineup, with Abbott Elementary, The Bear, and Only Murders in the Building joining new entrants like Nobody Wants This and The Studio. Meanwhile, Adolescence, Black Mirror, and The Penguin feature prominently in the limited or anthology series category.

Notable acting nods include Sterling K. Brown (Paradise), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), and Adam Scott (Severance) for lead actor in a drama, while Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us) and Keri Russell (The Diplomat) are among the leading ladies.

On the comedy side, Jeremy Allen White returns with another nomination for The Bear, joined by Jason Segel (Shrinking) and Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building). Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary) and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) lead the female comedy nominations.

Limited series acting categories saw big names like Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Jake Gyllenhaal (Presumed Innocent), Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer), and Michelle Williams (Dying for Sex) earning spots.

The Emmys also highlighted the dominance of a few productions, with the top ten most nominated shows being Severance (27), The Penguin (24), The Studio and The White Lotus (23 each), followed by The Last of Us (16), Andor and Hacks (14 each), and Adolescence, The Bear, and The Pitt with 13 nominations each.

However, the awards will celebrate outstanding work in television as the industry continues to evolve in a fiercely competitive and creatively rich streaming era.
