President Bola Tinubu has welcomed new investment initiatives from Qatar, particularly in agriculture, as Nigeria seeks to strengthen bilateral ties and boost economic growth.
Tinubu made the remarks while receiving Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Special Envoy of the Amir of Qatar and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, at the State House in Abuja.
According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu assured the envoy that Nigeria is open to strategic partnerships and ready to build on the progress from his 2024 visit to Qatar.
The Qatari envoy announced that a high-level business delegation from Qatar will visit Nigeria soon to explore opportunities in agriculture, food security, and petrochemicals.
Tinubu commended Qatar’s efforts in global peace and human development, noting that Nigeria values its relationship with the country. He also highlighted ongoing reforms to streamline Nigeria’s tax system, making it easier for foreign investors to do business.
“We are making efforts to reform our tax system… We are gradually seeing the light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu said.
The Qatari envoy expressed his country’s desire to partner with Nigeria in agriculture and other sectors, citing potential for mutual benefit. “The message I have from His Highness, Amir of Qatar, is that he wants Nigeria to be a strategic partner in Africa,” Al-Khulaifi said.
A Qatari business delegation is expected to visit Nigeria soon to discuss investment opportunities, solidifying the growing partnership between the two nations.
This development underscores Nigeria’s efforts to attract foreign investment and strengthen economic ties with global partners.
