Tinubu Renames University of Maiduguri After Late Buhari
President Bola Tinubu has announced the renaming of the University of Maiduguri to Muhammadu Buhari University, honoring the late former president’s legacy of service and integrity.
The decision was made during a special Federal Executive Council session at Aso Rock Villa on Thursday, dedicated to commemorating Buhari’s contributions to Nigeria.
Tinubu described Buhari, as a figure of humility and unwavering dedication. “He was a man of principle, not swayed by power or praise, who served Nigeria with quiet strength,” Tinubu said. He highlighted Buhari’s disciplined leadership, noting his ability to remain grounded despite the weight of high office.
Reflecting on their shared political journey, Tinubu recalled their alliance in the 2015 elections, which led to a historic shift in Nigeria’s political landscape. “Buhari led with dignity, never complaining about the burdens of leadership,” he said, praising the former president’s restraint and commitment during his tenure.
Tinubu also noted Buhari’s humble return to Daura after his presidency, where he lived simply, avoiding any urge to influence from afar. “His life was a lesson in service and submission to God’s will,” Tinubu said, adding that Buhari’s modesty and moral compass would inspire future generations.
Furthermore, he commended the Inter-Ministerial Committee and Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda for organizing a state funeral in Daura within 48 hours, calling it a fitting tribute. He concluded with a prayer for Buhari’s soul, saying, “May his legacy of courage and selflessness guide Nigerians forward.”
