Troops, Bandits Fall in Fierce Gun Battles Across Kaduna and Niger
Several soldiers and armed bandits lost their lives in intense confrontations on Tuesday following coordinated attacks on military outposts in Kaduna and Niger States.
The assaults took place in the Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka areas of Niger, as well as Aungwan Turai in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where bandits executed a well-planned, three-pronged strike on forward operating bases.
Troops from both ground and aerial units swiftly responded, launching counter-offensives that resulted in heavy casualties among the attackers.

However, the Nigerian Army confirmed that some of its personnel were also killed in the fierce engagements. In addition, four soldiers who sustained gunshot wounds are currently receiving medical treatment.
In a statement released on Wednesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Nigerian Army noted:
“On June 24, 2025, forward operating bases located in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka in Niger State, and Aungwan Turai in Chikun LGA of Kaduna State, were attacked in a coordinated three-way offensive by bandits. In response, troops from both the land and air components engaged in multiple counterattacks, eliminating several bandits in the process.
“Regrettably, some of our brave soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty. Four others wounded in action are presently receiving care for gunshot injuries. Further details will be provided as they unfold.”

These events mark yet another episode in the ongoing struggle between Nigerian forces and bandit groups operating in the North-West and North-Central regions of the country.
