Brazilian football legend Zico has named former Super Eagles captain, Austin “Jay-Jay” Okocha, as the greatest African footballer of all time.

Speaking on John Obi Mikel’s Obi One Podcast on Thursday, Zico praised Okocha’s creativity and unique flair, describing his style of play as “fantastic.”

The 71-year-old former Flamengo and Brazil star said Okocha’s brilliance on the pitch set him apart from other African greats such as Samuel Eto’o, George Weah, and Didier Drogba.

“I like Okocha — a fantastic player. Number 10, Okocha. Eto’o, fantastic. George Weah, Drogba,” Zico said during the interview, noting that Okocha’s artistry with the ball always fascinated him.

Zico also reaffirmed that his compatriot Pelé remains, in his view, the greatest footballer of all time.

Okocha, who turned 52 this year, made 73 appearances for Nigeria and scored 14 goals, earning global recognition for his dazzling footwork and commanding performances, especially during his time with Paris Saint-Germain and Bolton Wanderers.
