FG to Spend ₦3.6 Trillion on Third Mainland Bridge Rehabilitation
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, says the Federal Government will spend ₦3.6 trillion to rehabilitate the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos due to damage to its underwater structures.
Speaking after the recent Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Umahi said the bridge’s structural condition warranted urgent and extensive repairs.
FEC also approved ₦493 billion for two other major projects — ₦359 billion to rebuild Lagos’ Carter Bridge, which he said was declared beyond repair after structural damage, and ₦134 billion to upgrade the 152-kilometre Kano–Katsina Road.
Umahi noted that the cost of the Kano–Katsina project had risen due to economic factors. He recalled that in March, the government had estimated the rehabilitation of the Third Mainland and Carter bridges at ₦21 billion and ₦25 billion, respectively.
