ADC draws top contenders as Atiku, Amaechi file for presidency
The African Democratic Congress is gaining attention ahead of the 2027 general elections following the submission of presidential nomination forms by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.
Both politicians completed the process at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, signalling growing interest in the ADC as political alignments continue to shift.
Atiku described his bid as part of a wider effort to rebuild the country and improve living conditions, calling on Nigerians across all backgrounds to support what he termed a collective push for national progress. He said the move represented a step towards restoring better days for the country.

Amaechi, who also confirmed his ambition after submitting his form, said the 2027 election should focus on performance and experience rather than ethnic or regional considerations. He maintained that leadership should be based on proven records in public office.
The former Rivers State governor said he had the capacity to improve the country within four years if elected, pointing to his past roles in government as evidence of his readiness. He urged voters to assess candidates based on their achievements and ability to deliver results.
Amaechi also criticised the current administration, saying economic conditions had worsened and that Nigerians were facing increasing hardship. He argued that voting decisions should not be influenced by sentiments but by competence.
