ADC, Obidient Movement rally behind Moses Paul as Wike begins Light Up Abuja project
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Obidient Movement have thrown their weight behind Dr. Moses Paul, the ADC candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), ahead of next year’s area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, also announced his personal support for Paul, describing him as a dependable leader who would not betray the trust of the people. The endorsement was made during an independence sensitisation event in Abuja.
The Obidient Movement’s National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, confirmed the group’s support, saying Paul’s candidacy reflects the movement’s call for fresh leadership in AMAC.
Paul, addressing residents at the gathering, lamented that the council had failed in meeting people’s expectations, adding that voters were weary of leaders who disappear once elected.
He pledged to reposition AMAC under the campaign slogan “We Don’t Tire!” and called for residents to embrace the movement for change.

In a separate development, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has launched a major streetlight project to brighten the capital city as it approaches its golden jubilee in 2026.
At the inauguration of the Hybrid Solar Street Lighting Project, Wike said his administration was determined to deliver a safer and more modern Abuja despite challenges and attempts at sabotage.
He accused corrupt officials of using repeated maintenance requests as a revenue pipeline, but stressed that the project would break the pattern.
The project involves installing 300W hybrid solar-powered streetlights with advanced luminous capacities across major districts including Central Area, Maitama, Asokoro, Airport Expressway, Jabi, Katampe, Garki, Gudu and Mabushi. It also features surveillance integration to check vandalism and theft.
Wike further revealed that agreements were signed with Chinese construction firms during a 2024 official trip with President Bola Tinubu, with parts of the deals dedicated to the capital’s lighting and water projects.
