Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has met with his Nigerien counterpart, Brigadier General Mahamaduo Ibrahim Bagadoma, in Diffa Region of Niger Republic to discuss ways of tightening security along the Lake Chad border.
The visit, which took place on Thursday, was part of ongoing efforts to reinforce cooperation between Nigerian and Nigerien forces in combating Boko Haram and other insurgent groups operating around the lake.

Governor Zulum led a delegation of security and economic officials to the talks, which centred on joint patrols, intelligence sharing and sustaining recent military gains in the troubled border communities.
Diffa, about 17 kilometres from Damasak in northern Borno, shelters thousands of Nigerian refugees uprooted by insurgent violence.
During the visit, Zulum also raised the prospect of resettling displaced farmers back to their farmlands around Dutchi in the Lake Chad basin, highlighting the importance of agriculture in restoring livelihoods once peace is secured.
