Adeleke begins re-election bid, insists Accord will remain on ballot

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has launched his re-election campaign with a firm assurance that the Accord Party will remain on the ballot for the August 15 governorship election despite recent legal challenges.

Speaking at the campaign flag-off held at Freedom Park in Osogbo, Adeleke told supporters that all lawful steps were being taken to protect the party’s participation in the election and the 2027 general polls. He said voters should remain confident that their votes would count and urged them to mobilise across polling units.

The campaign event drew party leaders, stakeholders and a large crowd of supporters, including defectors linked to former All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretary, Iyiola Omisore, who declared support for Adeleke’s re-election.

Adeleke maintained that his administration is seeking a fresh mandate based on a five-point agenda focused on welfare for workers, youth and women, infrastructure development, agricultural and industrial growth, improved access to health and education, and a better business environment.

He also addressed concerns following a Federal High Court ruling on the deregistration of some political parties, stating that the Accord Party remains a legally recognised platform and will participate in the election.

One of the defectors, former Commissioner for Education, Folorunso Bamisaye, said their group joined the governor’s campaign based on his performance in office and past electoral strength, expressing confidence in his chances at the polls.
