Court Case Delays Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Return to Senate
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, remains unable to resume her duties in the Senate, as her six-month suspension continues pending a Court of Appeal ruling, according to the National Assembly.
In a letter dated September 4, 2025, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, informed the senator that her suspension, which began on March 6, 2025, cannot be lifted until the court resolves her legal challenge against the Senate.

The letter emphasized that the matter is still under judicial review, preventing any administrative steps to allow her return.
The senator’s suspension stemmed from allegations of insubordination after she opposed a reassignment of her seat during a Senate session. The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions recommended the suspension, which also withdrew her access to aides, office privileges, and salary.
Akpoti-Uduaghan has linked her suspension to a petition she filed accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, a claim the Senate rejected. She took her case to court, asserting that a ruling supported her reinstatement.
However, her attempt to return to the Senate in July was blocked by security operatives, despite supporters gathering outside the National Assembly in her favor.
The Senate stated it will only reconsider Akpoti-Uduaghan’s status once the Court of Appeal delivers its verdict. Until then, the lawmaker remains barred from resuming her legislative duties.
