“Enough is Enough”: Ondo Teachers Protest Oyo School Abductions, Demand Safety

Protest

Teachers in Ondo State hit the streets of Akure on Monday. They marched from the Teachers’ House to the Governor’s Office to protest the kidnapping of teachers and pupils in Oyo State.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Ondo Wing, led the rally. Teachers, union leaders, and education stakeholders joined. They carried placards that read: “Let Teachers Teach in Peace”, “Secure Every School, Save Every Dream”, and “An Attack on Teachers is an Attack on Education”.

NUT Ondo Chairman, Comrade Leke Ayodele, said the protest was a warning. “Attacks on teachers and students scare people away from school, especially in villages,” he said. He called the Oyo abduction painful and condemned the killing of one teacher during the attack.

Ayodele’s demands were direct: Federal Government, Oyo Government, and security agencies must act fast to free all victims unharmed.

“Enough is enough. No more kidnapping of teachers, pupils, or any Nigerian. Our schools must be safe.”

He said Ondo teachers stand with the families in Oyo and asked Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to strengthen the state’s security system to stop a repeat.

Comrade Bola Taiwo, Special Adviser on Union Matters, addressed the crowd. He praised the peaceful protest and said solidarity with Oyo colleagues was right.

Taiwo listed what Governor Aiyedatiwa’s government is doing: recruiting more Amotekun officers, giving vehicles to security agencies, and working with police and other security heads. He promised the government will keep protecting teachers and students.

He also urged residents: “Stay alert and share useful information with security agencies.”

For Ondo teachers, learning can’t happen in fear. Their message: secure the schools first.
