Gunmen Kill Two (2), Abduct Businessman In Ogun Border Attack
Gunmen killed two (2) people and abducted a popular hotelier during a late-night attack on Ilara,
Border town in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, around 11 p.m. on Wednesday.
The businessman, identified as Ade Bendel, was reportedly trailed to his hotel before the attackers opened fire indiscriminately,
residents flee for safety. Eyewitnesses, “A female hotel employee and another unidentified person were struck by stray bullets and died at the scene“.
The gunmen escaped through a bush path into the Republic of Benin, abandoning the victim’s vehicle in Sabe,
A town across the border. The incident left the community in fear and mourning.
Confirming the development on Thursday, the traditional ruler of Ilara, Oba Mutiu Adedimeji,
Told correspondent that the gunmen fled with the victim across the border after the deadly assault.

“They kidnapped Ade Bendel and killed two people. His vehicle was found in Sabe, in Benin Republic,” the monarch said.
A youth leader in the area, who spoke under condition of anonymity,
The attackers launched the assault shortly after trailing the victim to his hotel.

“They arrived suddenly and started shooting. Two people died from stray bullets. One of them was a female hotel staff,” he said.
Resident, who identified himself simply as Ade, said panic swept through the town as the sound of gunfire rang out.
“People were running in different directions. Two ladies trying to escape fell into a ditch and got injured.
The Ogun State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report.
The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said she was still gathering information.
A police officer in the area confirmed the incident but declined to provide further details.
Wednesday’s attack has renewed concerns over security in Ogun’s border communities,
Residents said the porous nature of the boundary with Benin Republic makes it easy for criminals to operate and escape without immediate consequence.
