Heavens won’t fall if Fubara is impeached — Wike
The political crisis in Rivers State escalated further as Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, dismissed threats from Ijaw-linked militant groups to sabotage oil pipelines if Governor Siminalayi Fubara is impeached. Wike declared that “heaven will not fall” if the governor is removed.
Meanwhile, the Martin Amaewhule-led State Assembly refused to meet with Fubara and barred him from presenting the 2025 budget, citing improper communication.
Despite this, Fubara insisted he had followed due process and remained ready to re-present the budget.
The Ijaw National Congress (INC) and Pan Niger-Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF) condemned the lawmakers’ actions, warning of severe economic and security consequences should Fubara be ousted.
INC President Benjamin Okaba accused the lawmakers of serving Wike’s interests and vowed resistance to any impeachment attempt.

Wike, in a televised interview, asserted that no ethnic group has a monopoly on violence and criticized the INC and PANDEF for what he described as politically motivated threats.
He also lambasted Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, accusing him of using their past alliance to settle political scores.
As tensions mount, Niger Delta oil-producing communities warned lawmakers against actions that could disrupt crude oil production, urging restraint to prevent a full-blown crisis in the region.
