Heavy Snowfall, Severe Winter Weather Disrupt Flights and Life Across the United States
Large parts of the United States are experiencing widespread snowfall and severe winter weather, as a powerful storm system continues to sweep across the country, disrupting transport, cutting power supply and prompting emergency responses in several states.
The snowfall, which began earlier this week, has affected the Midwest, Northeast and parts of the South, with meteorologists warning of hazardous travel conditions, freezing temperatures and icy roads.
In the Northeast, major cities including New York, Boston and Philadelphia recorded significant snow accumulation, leading to school closures, flight cancellations and delays on major roads. Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors unless travel is essential.
States in the Midwest, including Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, also reported heavy snowfall, as local authorities deployed snowploughs and emergency crews to clear highways and assist stranded motorists.
The storm has caused power outages in several areas, particularly where freezing rain led to ice build-up on trees and electricity lines. Utility companies said restoration efforts were ongoing, though some communities may remain without electricity for extended periods.

Air travel has been badly affected, with thousands of flights cancelled or delayed nationwide, according to aviation officials. Rail and bus services in some cities were also suspended or reduced due to unsafe conditions.
Emergency services have reported an increase in weather-related accidents, prompting renewed safety warnings. Officials advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to check on vulnerable people, including the elderly and those without adequate heating.
Meteorologists said the storm system is expected to weaken gradually as it moves eastwards, but cold conditions and lingering snow are likely to persist in several regions in the coming days.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have advised the public to follow official weather updates and emergency guidance.
