Kebbi Governor, Bags Nomination for African Governor of the Year
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State ,bags nomination for African Governor of the Year award,
In recognition of his strides in education and development since assuming office in 2023.
The award ceremony is set to hold on July 12, 2025, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.
The nomination was officially announced in a statement released on Tuesday by the organisers of the annual continental award event.
The statement explained that Governor Idris earned his place on the shortlist for his remarkable strides in governance,
Particularly in the education sector and broader socio-economic development initiatives that have reshaped Kebbi State since he assumed office in 2023.
“Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris has been nominated in the ‘African Governor of The Year’ category at the 2025 African Illustrious Awards,” the statement read.
“He was found worthy in his leadership and steadfast dedication in advancing the quality of life across Kebbi State.”
According to the awards committee, Governor Idris has led one of the most aggressive education reforms in recent state history.
His administration has successfully rehabilitated and equipped over 2,023 primary and secondary schools,
Also constructing 243 brand new educational institutions, all fitted with modern teaching tools and among others.
These efforts were further strengthened by a comprehensive free education policy introduced across the state .
To ensure access to learning for every child, regardless of economic background.
Beyond education, Governor Idris was praised for his inclusive governance style, his efforts to improve healthcare delivery,
Boost local agriculture, empower women and youths, and promote transparency in public service.
The African Illustrious Awards, organised annually by My Media Africa, celebrates individuals and leaders,
Across African who have made outstanding contributions in sectors such as public service,community development etc.
The event has recognised high-impact personalities, including former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan,

Former Prime Minister of Eswatini, Dr A.T. Dlamini, and respected Pan-African advocate Professor Patrick Lumumba.
Governor Idris, a former President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),
Brings years of grassroots experience and advocacy to his leadership.
His nomination signals growing recognition of his administration’s achievements beyond the borders of Kebbi.
