Musk’s ‘APC’ Tweet Sparks Reactions in Nigeria
A post by tech billionaire Elon Musk has triggered widespread reactions among Nigerian social media users after many misinterpreted his use of the term “APC.”
Musk, chief executive of Tesla, wrote on X that his futuristic vehicle, the Tesla Cybertruck, was “an APC from the future.”
While the remark gained global attention, it drew a particularly strong response in Nigeria, where “APC” is commonly associated with the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Many Nigerian users interpreted the post as a political reference, flooding the comment section with reactions before realising that Musk was referring to an Armoured Personnel Carrier, a military vehicle often compared to the Cybertruck’s design.
Some users expressed confusion, asking for clarification, while others urged Musk to avoid the abbreviation due to its political connotations in Nigeria.

Others reacted with humour and satire, linking the comment to the country’s political climate, while a number of users sought to clarify the meaning, explaining that the term referred to a military vehicle rather than a political party.
The exchange highlighted how global conversations on social media can take on local meanings, particularly when widely recognised acronyms carry different interpretations across regions.
