Trump Criticises Pope Leo Over Peace Appeal
US President Donald Trump has criticised Pope Leo XIV, saying he is “not a big fan” of the pontiff following his recent call for peace.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump described the pope as “a very liberal person” and questioned his stance on crime and global security.
The remarks came after the pope urged world leaders to end ongoing conflicts, calling for an end to war and what he described as the excessive pursuit of power and wealth.

Trump also suggested that the pontiff’s position on Iran was misguided, stating that he did not support a leader who appeared to tolerate the possibility of the country acquiring nuclear weapons.
The exchange reflects growing tensions between Washington and the Vatican over key global issues, including the conflict involving Iran and broader foreign policy concerns.

Despite the criticism, both sides have previously dismissed reports of a formal rift, even as disagreements persist over issues such as military action and diplomatic approaches to global crises.
