Nwoko Refutes Claims of Marrying Regina Daniels at 17, Labels Allegations False

Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has refuted claims by his estranged wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, that he married her at the age of 17.

In a statement released on Thursday across his verified social media handles, the lawmaker described the allegations as “false, misleading, and malicious,” insisting that they were aimed at tarnishing his reputation amid ongoing marital challenges.

“It has come to my attention that false claims are being circulated by Regina, suggesting that I married her when she was 17 years old. These claims are entirely untrue and misleading,” he said.

Nwoko explained that when he first met Regina, she identified herself as 21 and presented her Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter’s card as proof, showing her date of birth as October 10, 1998.

“For clarity, during my first meeting with Regina, I asked her age, and she told me she was 21 years old. She also presented her INEC voter’s card, which confirmed her date of birth. I have kept that document since then,” he added.

He maintained that their marriage took place six years ago, meaning the actress is currently 27 years old, and therefore, the allegation that he married her as a teenager is unfounded.

“The records are verifiable. Our marriage took place six years ago, and Regina is now 27. Any claim that I married her at 17 is completely false,” he stated.

Nwoko further alleged that the actress’s recent public statements were influenced by her “current mental state,” claiming she had begun but failed to complete a drug rehabilitation program.

He said, “Until the facts are verified, I urge the public to treat her claims with caution and discernment, especially considering her current mental condition after abandoning rehabilitation from drug addiction.”

The senator had earlier accused a group he described as the “pull-down-Ned syndicate” of exploiting his marital troubles to damage his reputation.

The rift between the couple intensified after Regina admitted to using illicit substances, claiming her husband introduced her to drugs for his own satisfaction. Nwoko, however, denied the accusation, alleging that Regina’s brother, Sammy, was responsible for her involvement with drugs.

The dispute comes amid Regina’s revelation that her parents recently reconciled following years of estrangement, an event she said was prompted by her brother’s arrest in Lagos and subsequent arraignment in Abuja.
