The incident occurred shortly after residents concluded celebrations for the community’s Olimi Festival and a social gathering held in honour of a prominent chief’s burial.

According to sources in the area, trouble began during the event when an argument broke out between two men over a woman. The disagreement allegedly turned violent after one of the men became upset that the other was dancing with the woman he had accompanied to the gathering.

The situation reportedly escalated when one of the parties attacked the other with a cutlass, inflicting fatal injuries. The victim was said to have died from wounds sustained during the altercation.

The killing is believed to have triggered a retaliatory attack, as relatives and associates of the deceased allegedly stormed the community where the suspected assailant resides and set several buildings ablaze.

At least seven houses were reportedly burnt during the unrest, forcing many residents to flee the area amid fears of further violence and possible arrests by security operatives.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident, but residents say the situation has left the community on edge as efforts continue to restore calm and prevent further reprisals.
