PDP, APC Exchange Accusations as EFCC Arrests Ex-Lawmakers
Fifteen former lawmakers in Plateau State, including a former Speaker, have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,
sparking a war of words between the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.
The former legislators, among them ex-Speaker Moses Thomas Sule, were taken into custody recently.
They currently serve as liaison officers to Governor Caleb Mutfwang in their respective constituencies.
According to the EFCC, the arrests are linked to allegations of money laundering and procurement irregularities.
The suspects are being investigated for alleged violations of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
In a statement issued recently, the Peoples Democratic Party alleged that the arrests were politically motivated.
The party accused the All Progressives Congress of using federal agencies to target opposition figures in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.

“The arrest of our members is part of a broader strategy by certain APC leaders to suppress opposition voices and destabilize the PDP-led government in Plateau,” said PDP State Publicity Secretary, Jonathan Amande.
He described the development as an attempt to intimidate party loyalists and undermine the state administration.
The PDP also criticized the public handling of the arrests, calling it a tactic to damage the party’s reputation.
In response, APC State Chairman Rufus Bature denied the allegations, stating that the party had no involvement in the arrests.
“The EFCC is doing its job. As a party, we have never discussed the issue of the former lawmakers.
There claims made by the PDP are baseless,” Bature said.
The situation has added to growing political tension in Plateau, as both major parties position themselves ahead of the next general elections.
