The suspect, identified as Adegbenro Adeola, was apprehended after police officers intercepted a vehicle linked to an alleged abduction case along the Oba-Ile area of the state capital.

Confirming the development on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said the arrest followed intelligence gathered by officers who were on routine patrol on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

According to the police, operatives became suspicious after hearing cries for help coming from a moving red Toyota Camry. The officers immediately pursued the vehicle, leading to the rescue of the victim and the arrest of one of the suspects.

Police authorities alleged that the suspect belongs to a criminal gang accused of carrying out kidnapping activities in parts of Akure and its surrounding communities.

The rescued victim was said to have been taken to safety, while investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the gang who reportedly escaped during the operation.

The police command reaffirmed its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state, urging residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
