Police take over case of missing 5-year-old girl in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has handed over the investigation into the disappearance of five-year-old Memunah Abdulrahman to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, following mounting concerns from the family and the public.

Memunah was abducted on March 9 in the Ejigbo area of Lagos while returning home with her sister from an Islamic school. The suspect reportedly lured the two girls into a local supermarket under the pretext of buying them items, but fled with Memunah, leaving her sister behind.

CCTV footage from the store captured the suspect leading the child away, prompting the family to report the incident to the Ejigbo Divisional Police Headquarters.

Despite efforts by local police, the child has yet to be found.

In response to the growing pressure, the Commissioner of Police, Owohunwa Jimoh, ordered that the case be transferred to the SCID, where a team of detectives has already begun preliminary investigations.

According to Ojagbemi Takuro, the community secretary speaking for the family, officers visited the store last Friday and also met with the child’s parents.

“We appreciate the CP’s intervention. The detectives came on Friday and the parents went with them to SCID. They visited the store where the incident happened. The CCTV shows the suspect leaving with the girl,” Takuro said.

The girl’s father, Alimi Abdulrahman, expressed the family’s pain and financial exhaustion in the ongoing search. He appealed to the public to assist in identifying the suspect.

“Our daughter is only five. We’re begging anyone who knows anything to please help us bring her home,” he pleaded.

The case comes just days after police reported another abduction involving a landlord’s daughter and a man in Ijede, Lagos, highlighting rising concerns about child safety in the state.
