The Port Harcourt refinery officially resumed truck-out operations on Tuesday. This marks the return of crude oil processing at the facility.
The event was attended by Mr. Ibrahim Monday Onoja, MD of PHRC, and Mele Kyari, CEO of NNPC Ltd. They symbolized the official return of product distribution.
President Bola Tinubu commended NNPC Ltd. for restoring the refinery. He recognized this as a key step toward energy independence. Tinubu instructed NNPC Ltd. to speed up the reactivation of other refineries.

This includes the second Port Harcourt refinery, Warri, and Kaduna refineries. His aim is to boost domestic fuel supply and stimulate economic growth. He also thanked former President Buhari for initiating the project.
Mele Kyari thanked all stakeholders involved in the project. He praised the NNPC Ltd. Board, contractors, and workers. Kyari mentioned that the refinery is processing 70% of its capacity.
It is now producing essential products like PMS, AGO, and HHK. Kyari said the refinery is expected to load around 200 trucks daily.
Kyari celebrated the start of product truck-out as a major achievement. This marks a new era for Nigeria’s energy security. The refinery’s rehabilitation will reduce reliance on imported fuel. NNPC Ltd. plans to increase production to 90% soon.
Industry stakeholders, like Dr. Joseph Obele of PETROAN, are optimistic. Obele sees the refinery’s operation as a chance to review fuel prices.
High Chief Sunny Nkpe, a community leader, also praised the development. He believes the refinery will support local economic growth and energy sustainability.
Petroleum Tankers Drivers (PTD) also welcomed the refinery’s reactivation. Johnbosco Bosco, PTD Chairman, thanked the government for revitalizing the plant. He assured that drivers would ensure smooth distribution of products.
Bosco hopes the regular loading of products will continue. This will benefit Nigerians and ensure a stable supply.
