Six Rivers Reps Dump PDP for APC

Six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have left the Peoples Democratic Party for the ruling All Progressives Congress, further shrinking the opposition’s presence in the state’s caucus at the National Assembly.

The lawmakers, Robinson Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi and Felix Nwaeke, announced their decision on Tuesday in Abuja. Their letters of defection were read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas.

In the letters, the lawmakers blamed their decision on deep divisions and an unresolved political crisis within the PDP, which they said had made it difficult for them to function effectively and pursue their political goals.

They declared their intention to align with the policies and programmes of the APC-led Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu.

With the latest development, the PDP’s representation from Rivers State in the House has dropped sharply. The party, which once had 12 lawmakers from the state, is now left with only two members following earlier defections last week.

The remaining PDP lawmakers from Rivers State are the House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and Kelechi Nwogu.
