Sony Hikes PS5 Prices in Select Markets
Sony has adjusted the prices of some PlayStation 5 models in several countries, citing tough global economic conditions as the reason for the hike. The increase, however, does not affect the United States.
According to the company, the cost of the PS5 digital edition which does not come with a disc drive has gone up by more than 10 percent in Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
Sony said the decision was driven by inflation and unstable currency exchange rates that have made it difficult to maintain previous price levels.

In a blog post, Sony described the move as a “tough decision,” taken after reviewing current economic realities. While the digital version of the console saw price jumps in most regions, the standard PS5 with a Blu-ray drive also became more expensive in Australia and New Zealand.
For customers in the Middle East and parts of Africa, Sony confirmed there would also be price increases but did not provide specific figures. On the other hand, the company said it would be reducing the price of the standalone disc drive accessory for the PS5.
The newly adjusted prices took effect on Monday. However, the company clarified that the PlayStation 5 Pro, a more advanced model launched in November with enhanced speed and graphics, will retain its current pricing.
In Europe, the PS5 digital edition now costs €499.99, while in the UK it sells for £429.99. The changes come as tech companies worldwide continue to navigate uncertain economic conditions, from inflation to shifting trade policies.
