FG Sets 14-Month Target for Abuja-Kaduna Road Fix

The Federal Government has handed a 14-month timeline to Infiouest Construction Company to deliver the reconstruction of Section II of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria road, marking a renewed push to complete one of the country’s busiest highways.

The new contract, valued at N525 billion, comes after the initial agreement with Julius Berger Plc was revoked due to disagreements over cost adjustments. Infiouest now takes over the critical stretch, with expectations high for a faster and more cost-effective delivery.

Speaking during the official flag-off of the project at Jere, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, said the road will be constructed with concrete reinforcement and will serve as a long-term solution to the heavy traffic and accident risks along the corridor.

Umahi praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his cooperation, adding that the state government’s support has been crucial in advancing the project.

He also highlighted the broader scope of the federal government’s ongoing road efforts, noting that the 700km Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano expressway is a key national priority.

According to him, while Julius Berger has already completed a large portion of Section III between Zaria and Kano, the remaining parts along with a fresh 11km extension to Aminu Kano International Airport are also in motion.

He said the President has directed that solar-powered lights be installed along the entire route to improve safety.

In addition to Section II, Umahi disclosed that Sections I and III—totaling 118 kilometres—have now been re-awarded at a cost of N252 billion.
