Sowore’s Arrest Sparks Outrage, Obi Demands Clarity
The arrest of Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate and Sahara Reporters publisher, has ignited widespread concern, with Peter Obi, a prominent political figure, condemning the detention as a breach of justice.
Sowore was detained on Tuesday at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja after voluntarily responding to a police invitation.
Obi, in a heartfelt statement shared on his X account on Thursday, expressed deep concern over the lack of clear charges against Sowore.

He emphasized that the activist’s willingness to cooperate with authorities should have ruled out any need for detention. “When someone honors a police invitation and is still held without explanation, it raises serious questions about fairness,” Obi said, urging the Nigerian Police to either release Sowore or formally charge him.
The absence of an official police statement has fueled public frustration, with many Nigerians taking to social media to demand Sowore’s release. Obi warned that such actions risk undermining trust in the nation’s law enforcement. “Justice must guide our institutions, or we lose the moral foundation of our society,” he said, echoing the sentiments of many citizens.
Sowore remains in custody as calls for transparency grow louder, with Nigerians watching closely for the police’s next move.
