Storm and Vandals Disrupt Power in Kaduna South
A fierce windstorm, combined with vandalism, has caused a power outage in parts of Kaduna South after a transmission tower collapsed in Rigasa Community on September 18, 2025, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported.
The storm’s heavy rains and strong winds brought down Tower No. 7 along the Kaduna Town Line I and II, which had already been compromised by vandals who stole essential structural parts. This left the tower unable to withstand the harsh weather.

The collapse has cut off electricity to several communities served by the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO).
To mitigate the impact, TCN directed KAEDCO to link its 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder, restoring power to some residents in the Mogadishu area.
Areas including Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North continue to receive normal electricity supply.
TCN’s engineering team is on-site, removing debris from the fallen tower and working to erect a replacement. The company apologized for the disruption and assured residents it is working around the clock to restore full power quickly.
“We’re committed to fixing this as fast as possible to minimize inconvenience,” TCN said, urging affected customers to bear with the situation.
